Jim Pearce, President of Pegasus Technologies, has designed a wide variety of
electronic products over his 30+ years of professional experience. A few that he has worked on
during the last several years are listed below.
The PTSS2003 Series Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Transceiver Module
This FCC-certified module, which is available in several different frequencies at any quantity
from Pegasus Technologies, uses the
ultra-low-power XEMICS 1202 transceiver chip and an embedded TI MSP430 microcontroller,
and is both tiny and versatile. See our RF Products page or
call Jim Pearce at (865) 717-9339 for information and pricing.
2.4 GhZ Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Digital Audio System
This system uses Intersil components and a Xilinx FPGA to produce a high-quality
stereo audio broadcast system. Technical challenges include the need for a low-cost,
small-size receiver package and a transmitter that incorporates an innovative
proprietary sound enhancement technique.
Multi-channel, multi-location receiving system for scientific wildlife
trackingThis system employs multiple antenna processors which
encode the incoming signals and put them onto a trunk line for further processing
at the researcher's PC. As a follow-on project, also reworked the client's design
for an underwater amplifier used in the same system to enhance reliability and performance.
RF SmartSensor
Our Director, Jim Pearce, served as lead engineer and chief architect for this machine
monitoring system. This system uses a 2.4GhZ Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum data link for
communicating machinery status. The design eliminates costly wiring and simplifies monitoring
in hard-to-reach locations and extreme environments. The system incorporates a transceiver
that supports multiple sensors, each of which is a self-contained machinery vibration and
temperature monitoring system. These units perform vibration and temperature analysis and
relay results back to the user via the transceiver. Jim Pearce holds two patents on innovative
technology used in this system, which has won the following design awards:
- 1999 MSA Product of the Year SILVER award in Plant Services Magazine's annual
Product of the Year contest, February 2000
- Gold Award Winner in Plant Engineering Magazine's annual Product of the Year contest
in the category of Power Transmission Equipment, November 1999
- Best Overall Industry Contribution award, National Manufacturing Week conference in
Chicago, March 1999
- Best New Product Showcase award, National Plant Engineering and Management Show and
Conference, March 1999.
SmartMeter
This hand-held FFT-based spectrum analyzer was the first machine monitoring tool to use
removable memory cards. This innovative design was named as the 1988 Product of the Year
at the National Plant Engineering and Maintenance conference. While this is not a recent
product, we mention it here to demonstrate Jim's longstanding reputation for smart solutions.
